OAAHC Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

October 20, 2020

For Immediate Release

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Asian American Health Coalition (OAAHC) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. OAAHC’s goal is to fund the health of Ohio’s Asian Americans by supporting community research, education and advocacy. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

OAAHC has joined the #GivingTuesday movement because we believe the global movement is very powerful, especially this year. The pandemic, politics, human rights, and environmental disasters affected everyone this year. In these trying times, now more than ever, we need to support one another. We believe that sharing our talents with others is the most fulfilling way to use them. This movement allows us to share our story with others and encourage the spirit of giving to grow greater than ever before. Being a part of the #GivingTuesday community also provides the opportunity to share OAAHC’s story with a wider audience to gain followers while at the same time generating support for our communities.

“We want to transform lives in under-served communities by supporting the programming which funds the health of Ohio’s Asian Americans by supporting community research, education and advocacy,” said Executive Director Manju Sankarappa. “Providing these things changes lives and leaves the communities healthier, more knowledgeable, and inspired. The #GivingTuesday movement allows us to share this goal beyond our immediate borders and encourage others to join our mission.”

“I’m excited to be part of the #GivingTuesday movement once more because I know this campaign means a lot to the communities we serve. It’s a pleasure to be responsible for supporting efforts and implementing organization-wide marketing, communications, and social media initiatives to help raise awareness and promote community engagement,” OAAHC Communications and Media Strategist Sarah Kucyk exclaimed.

About #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on December 1. #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
